Faerin

Faerin
Despite their small form, this diminutive race served under Tiamat when she reigned as the supreme ruler of worlds during the Age of Dragons. Their connection to powerful fae made them powerful magic users and formidable enforcers of Tiamat's laws. After the Dragon Empress was overthrown, faerin kingdoms were all dismantled, broken down into smaller fragments that were then absorbed by the victors of the war that toppled the dragons. Since then, the Faerin diaspora has been scattered across the world, suffering scorn from the other races. Even their once fearsome magical ability had also faded over time. The era of dragons and faerins had ended.
Nowadays, faerins can be found just about anywhere. In bigger and less diverse cities, faerin makes a living working undesirable jobs for little pay, serving wealthier people without much opportunity to advance. Others can be found in rural villages or small towns where they can live a peaceful, agrarian life. Some seeks fortune in adventuring. Even fewer are fortunate enough to make it big in the biggest and most-diverse cities.

Nimble and Practical

Faerins live in a world of giants, averaging around 3'5 feet tall. While there are disadvantages to being small-bodied, it is practical. They inhabit less space than a human, requiring less food and materials. Being small allows them to get away from bigger opponents or using their harmless appearance to catch enemies off-guard. Their practicality extends beyond clothes and food, however, as they often prefer to keep their wealth in a strongbox rather than displaying it on their body like the vain races.
Uniquely, all faerins (except harfs) possess a pair of small magical wings barely visible to the naked eye. The wings manifests at the faerin's upper back and are completely unfettered by clothes as they are detached. These wings are the remnant of the race's once powerful magical ability, it is pure magic and thus has no physical form.
Dispossessed Queendom
After the end of the Age of Dragons, faerins no longer had a place they can call home. Generations of discrimination had made faerins rather jaded and appreciative of a simpler and more peaceful life. Nowadays, there are few things outside of hardship and the remnant of their once-feared fae magic that unites the faerin diaspora. Most faerins had adapt to the culture where their ancestors ended up settling. The faerin cultural diversity resembles that of human, whose culture are also a product of their environment.
Practical and Diligent
Faerin are known for their incredible work ethics, making them highly desirable workers. Practicality and frugality are also common faerin traits. They focus on experience over theories and ideas. When presented with problems they will go for the most straightforward solution as they have little patience for dithering. In the same vain, they favor durable albeit plain equipment over ones that sacrifices utility for aesthetics. These diligent folks work hard to earn their keep and stow them away as they save up for big and important purchases. It is rare for a faerin to be indulgent with his or her riches.
Cautious and Loyal
Considering their history, faerins are highly wary of non-faerins. Befriending a faerin is often a lengthy and arduous process. However, once friendship has been made and trust has been established, faerin are some of the most reliable friends one can have. Faerin are also very social when they are in an environment they are comfortable in, one swig of alcohol can get a faerin talking for days.

Subraces
City Faerin
This is the subrace that typifies faerins. If you encounter a faerin anywhere, it's most likely a city faerin. Unlike harfs who have lost their magical connection, and unlike fladrin, who retained too much connection, city faerins dances in the middle. They retained their fae wings, but there's barely any innate magic left to sustain their appearance.

Harv
Harvs are faerin who have lost all connection to their fae ancestry. Instead, generations of toiling the field had made them monstrously strong despite their small stature. Harvs resemble any faerin in appearance with the exception of their dense muscularity and lack of the translucent fae wings. Harvs are often working physically-intensive jobs such as mercenaries, guards, knights, or soldiers.

Fladrin
Faerins who still have strong connection to the ancient Fae are called fladrins. Fladrins has retained much of their past magical prowess, allowing them to become powerful practitioner of magic. Magic flows freely through fladrins' petite body, empowering their wings, which are always visible. Fladrins tend to have strong personalities. They are extroverts who wear their emotion on their sleeve. They are also the one subrace of faerin who can make contacts with ancient Fae, utilizing ancient albeit dangerous magic to empower themselves.
Fladrin who had made a contract and bound an ancient Fae to them will often display clear visual signs of their contract. It is safe to assume that the stranger the fladrin appears, the more they had borrowed from their Fae.
