Drakyn

Created to serve the powerful dragon race that came before them, drakyn derived much of their power, culture, and elitism from their draconic origin. Despite a history of abuse, drakyns are obsessed with their draconic root even now.

During the Age of Dragons when dragons ruled the world, dragon sorcerers artificially created drakyns so they could serve dragons in their domain. The drakyns were made in a dragon's image, deriving their power, culture, and scale directly from specific types of dragons. Their aberrant form, however, was looked on with disgust. The dragons treated their supposed subjects with disdain. After the war that ended Tiamat's reign, the victor lifted drakyns out of slavery. The few who were tasked with stowing away the hoards of their master surrendered some of it, but hid the rest for themselves. This wealth allowed drakyns to build large nations that persists until today.

Drakyns typically possess extreme personalities, but despite their intimidating appearance and eccentric personality, they are loyal companions and great adventurers thanks to their martial skills and innate dragon abilities.

The damage increases to 3d6 at 5th level, 4d6 at 11th level, and 5d6 at 17th level.
After you use your breath weapon, you can't use it again until you complete a short or long rest.

Sharp and Distinctive

drakyns eye and hair colors varies greatly depending on their birthplace and ancestry. Their skin spans from the more natural shades to shades of gray or bluish gray. drakyns are physically imposing, often standing taller than humans at 5'8" to 6'5".

The draconic ancestry gives all drakyn massive horns that protrude from the side of their head as well as bony scales that cover random parts on their body. Both their horns and scales take on the material of the drakyn ancestry. While drakyns of metallic ancestries take on the material and color of metal, chromatic drakyn have horns and scales made out of draconic bones that take after the color of their ancestry.

Zealous Pursuit

Thanks to the dragon hoards that weren't coveted after the Draconic War, drakyns have spawned several empires across the world, each distinctive with their own set of laws and culture. However, if there is one thing that unite all drakyn, that would be their vanity and obsession with their powerful ancestry that once lorded over the world. drakyns are often egotistical, driving them toward self-reliance and personal improvement.

Faith, whether it is placed in gods, clan, mission, or ancestry, is an important aspect of drakyn culture. Many drakyn are driven to zealotry over their belief. Those who are not enslaved usually leave home to sate their curiosity about the world.

Friendly Borders

Despite being the descendants of a tyrannical race, drakyn are extremely welcoming to other races. drakyn are vane. They openly flaunt their wealth, power, and knowledge to signal status and happily trade their goods, wealth, and technology with other races. drakyn believe that anything crafted by their kind is naturally top of the line. This openness to trade has made themselves and their allies prosperous. Many drakyn cities are known for their needless opulence and prices that match such a level of vanity.

Ancestral Obsession

All drakyn have a draconic ancestry that they can trace back to the a particular of dragons. This connection to a monstrous race that once enslaved them is the most important thing to all drakyn. Not only does their ancestry determine their position within a particular drakyn empire or city. Over their lengthy history, powers fluctuate between the ancestries. While Black and Blue drakyns may be the ruling class in some places, they can conversely be at the bottom of the totem pole elsewhere.

For all the talks of drakyn being warm to outsiders, they are highly critical and competitive among themselves thanks to the eternal struggle for dominance between the ancestries. Considering the fact that ancestry is exclusively passed from males to their offspring, marriage and clan or familial relations becomes a convoluted affair.
